Make you happy!

You figure as long as there are smiles on your children’s faces, you’ll be happy.  You think as long as you can do something that helps family and friends feel good, you’ll be happy.  You expend a lot of energy seeing to the pleasures and comfort of your significant other, because that will make you happy.  Everybody’s happy!

Except you.

Why?  Because your happiness gauge depends on the actions and emotions of others.  This sort of measuring will only lead to disappointment and your own unhappiness.

“If you want to live a happy life, tie it to a goal, not to people or things.”
 – Albert Einstein

People disappoint.  Things don’t last forever.  You have to know that when no one else is around, and you don’t have anything else to buy, that you can still be happy.

Don't rely on someone else for your happiness and self worth. Only you can be responsible for that. If you can't love and respect yourself - no one else will be
able to make that happen. Accept who you are - completely; the good and the
bad - and make changes as YOU see fit - not because you think someone else
wants you to be different.” – Stacey Charter

Happiness is being able to smile for reasons you can’t explain.  Happiness is feeling good just because.  Happiness is knowing that despite all the chaos and turmoil around you, you have a peaceful place you can go to at any time.  Happiness is knowing that you did all you could do, and proud of the effort you put into it.

You scrimped and saved to buy your baby a bike for Christmas.  You got the red one, but he wanted the blue.  He’s a little disappointed, so are you.  But inside you now know that you can make the sacrifices necessary to get the things you want.  Just as you sacrificed to get that bike, you’ll sacrifice so that you can take a much needed vacation.  He’ll ride that red bike, and you’ll know you got for him without borrowing from anybody; on your own.

Your being happy is all up to you!
